Pads Away!
Well after one game at the launching pad that is Coors field, it's hard to really decipher anything yet. It would be easy to jump on Woody and Trevor but it's only one game, in CO no less, so it's hard to get too upset. But is there any worse way to lose than your closer coughing up multiple runs!? Being a Met fan as well, I had to watch Looper do the same thing earlier against the Reds. A double ouch. One thing you can say about the Pads is that if Hernandez potential is for real, they may actually score quite a few runs this year. Keeping Nady over Bay is still a reach, but the ball just jumps off that guys bat. And he's obviously a better athelete than Bay, who's basically an average LF at best. Time will tell. Giles may also be an X-factor this year as he's playing for what will probably be his last multi-year contract. I say let him play all season for his dollars, and if he's cheap enough, resign him after the season. Remember the Pads payroll right now for '07' is a measly 7mil, and you can buy a lot of bat with that kind of flexibility. Another note on Trevor...he's looking close to done. While he saved 40+ games last year, he looked very hittable at times, with a nice jump in ERA. Problem w/Hoffy is that he needs pinpoint control with his fastball, AND has to be able to throw the changeup for a strike to be effective. Two things that may fall off w/age. I can see him as possibly an 8th inning setup guy next season, but losing games in the 9th will put you on a short leash. So let's hope he's not done. Hope Adam 'Jekyll' Eaton shows up tonight instead of Mister Hyde. Hate to start the homestand at 0-2....
